Serenity Department

I will take part of the Sandberg fellowship programme with the project with Serenity Department. The project is an experimental biography and mending research project made in close collaboration with my Mum, Maria Ling Qing Huang and myself. This research is a dialogue between my mother’s life story told through her drawings and myself in the form of biographical writing and publishing. This project is a deeply personal one where vulnerability, conflict and discomfort are inevitably part of the process and research. I’ll have to negotiate the different roles as a daughter, artist-designer-researcher, and biographer, but also between fiction and fact, and between my mother’s trauma and my own. The research seeks to make visible intergenerational trauma, diasporic ruptures of dislocation and relocation, fictions of survival, Asian female subjectivities and immigrant labor that gives relevance to the realm of the emotional and psychological alongside the political, cultural and social.
